Since releasing Facebox, I’ve been getting a lot of email about it. A search through my inbox produces 35 conversations. And you know what? Out of all the bug fixes, suggestions, and ideas, only one person has sent me a patch. One.
This is non-scientific and anecdotal, but I’m pretty sure the vast majority of bug fixes, suggestions, and ideas regarding Ruby projects I’ve open sourced included patches. So what’s the deal? Is the Ruby community much more ingrained in the open source mentality? More used to dealing with broken open source and needing to patch it? More confident sending someone else their code?
Maybe they just have more free time. One wonders.
